Just filled up @ $2.38/gal. from Herger Gas and that is as I am told a discounted price because I have my own tank. But they have also this past year started adding a $3.00 delivery charge.

I just switched from Brown's gas to Ferrellgas and got a first time customer fill up price of $1.99.

They filled my tank (I own it) with 191.8 gallons ($383.41) plus added $12.99Hazmat Fee and $6.99 Fuel Surcahrge Fee for a total of $403.39

Going forward i'm being quoted a $2.42per gallan price but you still have to pay the Hazmat and Fuel Surcharge fees.

Did some calculations: in the first example ($1.99 plus fees), it came out to $2.11 a gallon and in the 2nd example it will be $2.52 per gallon, including all fees.

If interested in changing, call Larry Smith at 530-277-2833 and tell him Acc# 9116698 referred you (gives me a little discount). Thanks in advance!

    Eagle Valley today charged me 3.44 + Regulatory Compliance Charge ???? = 4.98 + Fuel Surcharge ???? = 5.00
    69.4 gal @ 3.44 + 4.98 + 5.00 = 248.00
that is just one of our tanks we got three the 4.98 & 5.00 charges are per tank so they just made a extra 30.00 in fees off us. Looks like it's time to find another service before next fill up

I already have ferrelgas....I just need to get hold of Larry and I can't find the paper I had with his cell number. And the main office is not usually willing to give out his cell or contact him. I tried that once before and they refused to contact him.

Brown's Gas just topped us off again @ $3.07...looking at the other prices it seems like we're overpaying and it's time for a change. Thanks for everyone's reply.

Does anyone use Ferrellgas and NOT OWN their tank? They usually have different ppg for tank renters and owners......Renters are usually more expensive ppg for some reason on top of paying the tank rental fee........doesn't make much since to me, but most all gas companies are that way......just curious to what a tank renter is paying before I decide to make any changes.

So, renting a tank and about $3/gal with Ferrell.......guess I'll stay with Browns for now.......it's about the same and I don't have to schedule fill appts with them.....they check it on their route and if it's below a certain amount, they will fill it. I also have a BPP (Balanced Payment Plan) set up with them....flat fee all year long (each month). No huge bill to worry about. I build up a nice credit during the summer months when I use much less propane and over a 12 month time, I break perttymuch even. From what I read on Ferrell's site, they don't offer that at this time.

actually Ferrelgas does offer a balanced payment plan...call the office and they will give you the info. And I just found the paper with Larry's cell phone number....it is 530-277-2838. They came and filled me today and it was $2.69 a gal plus $12.99 hazmat fee and $6.99 fuel surcharge. So for 161 gal that averages out to $2.81. I rent my tank for $65 a year.

ranglehart....Ferrelgas will also put you on a stay filled program where they come out and check to keep you filled. I opted out of that program because my idiot neighbors have blocked our driveway access and we now hve to drive through our pasture. Once it gets muddy the propane truck can't get through. So we don't use our central heat anymore to conserve propane for hot water, cooking and the clothes dryer. Thankfully I have a high efficiency wood burning stove and several space heaters. It's actually way cheaper, but makes for some cold mornings until we get the stove and space heaters going ;-)

Eagle just filled my tank last week at $3.17/gal. I have had Brown's Gas and Ferrell Gas before. I also pay a tank rental fee. It seems once the tank is set they start raising rates due to the inconvenience of switching service. If you own your tank then they have to be competitive for each fill.

WARNING: Last week I was talked into switcing to Reliance Propane and their sales guy told me there wasn't a contract. WRONG! I was just going through my paperwork and that ***** had me sign all sorts of stuff he didn't tell me about! He pretty much fed me a line of lies. My old company hasn't picked up their tank yet so I'm just having them switch the propane back into it, and having Reliance pick up their tank! There is no way i'm changing again, I'm sticking with Herger Gas and they didn't even charge me anything for transfering the propane and putting the tank back.

The guy from Reliance came by here a couple of weeks ago and tried to get us to change fromHerger gas. When I asked his price it was .15 a gallon higher than Herger. He was really pushy, I could tell that I pissed him off when I told NO I was not changing.

Where are folks buying the tanks and prices? I know when we moved out here I think I talked to Browns about it but it was pretty pricy.

Although some of those prices for having your own tank could help make up for it!

We rent our tank from Herger Gas. On the 13th of January I paid 2.86 gal. I also would like to have our own Tank.
Herger is less than others. When ought our house 12 years ago. Browns was high, so I started calling around and Herger at ta time was .50 a gallon cheaper than Browns. At that time Browns would charge for coming out on a day that was not your regular delivery date. As I said, that was 12 years ago

I was told by Herger Gas that if you buy a older used tank somewhere they can replace everything on it, valve wise I guess, and I think it was around $150 or so but I asked awhile ago. I didn't want to have the respponsiblity of taking care of the tank and worrying about up keep so I rented one from them. I was also informed that tank rental was to cover taxes that they have to pay in each county they set their tanks, something I had no idea about. Anytime I have had questions or concerns Herger Gas has always been there to help me out normally sooner then later. I think they only have one contact number now 530-633-2626 Thanks Everyone!

Thanks for the info manywhoas........I will give them a call and see what they can do to get my business. Their site needs updating though as it does not reflect that option anywhere. I'll be sure to mention that when I call. I'll update ya'll with any progress/changes.
I've had Browns sicne buying our house 2/5 yrs ago and only had one issue where the tank went empty (deliver guy missed me I reckon)...it was 45 degrees and we did not have a wood stove yet. The manager came out with an emergency fill 13g tank to hold me over until the AM. Other than that, they have been a pleasure to work with to date.

I had a bad experence with a gas co out of Grass Valley, this last fall. My propane tank ran empty on the week end, and they refuse to come out, because it was the weekend. I use to work as a firefighter and Browns Gas, use to put on safety training for the firefighters. So I gave them a call. They first did a safety check, and found out that my hot water heater was flashing over, and could have caught my home on fire. I bought a new Water heater and had it installed. Browns Gas is a great business and now I feel safe, knowing that they check for safety. The other gas co could have cared less. So please remeber folks, that the cost of gas could come with a dangerous price.

The Reliance Propane sales guys is going door to door and stopped in today.  He's quoting $2.75/per gallon with no other fees.  We're probably going to switch to them based on the price and the posts about how happy people are with them.  Thanks for all the input.

Many thanks to everyone who posted on this topic. This is valuable information that can reduce consumer gouging. It seems that a few of the company's prices start out low, then steadily increase once they've got you locked in. I'm not talking about their promotional fill rate. Keep posting fill prices and whether or not you own tour tank. Thank you all.

Thought I would post this it might help some people out on their gas bill. I was told by Herger Gas today that if someone who is a current customer recomends a new customer to Herger Gas and that new customer sets a tank at their property the current customer gets a $50. credit on their account for propane. Anyone want to sign up? =)

I have Ferreral gas and there is a 12.99 hazmat fee and 6.99 delivery fee for every order....this is standard. I just filled up at 2.25 a gallon today. I switched from Thortons and truely miss them. They were cheaper and a small town local company out of Nicoulaus. I would reccomend them even with the $65 yearly tank fee. If you add it up the hazmat and delivery fee from Ferreral take away any savings in 3 deliveries.
