It is an intentional design decision to not allow forum post editing. We intend the forums to be like face-to-face conversations...there are no "take-backs". ;) Once you say it, it's out there. Granted, I'm sure that is not your intent...you probably just want to fix typos, but not everyone is so noble.

We do however allow editing/deleting in the classifieds.

I have to say, this is a strange reason from the admin here. Especially when we ask a nag to have them enforce the rules (terms of use) that are so routinely violated on here.

So it seems they only want to enforce (or not allow) certain things??

This is the only forum I have ever seen that does not allow editing on ones posts. In fact, many only allow editing only for the first 24 hours.....after that, then the "edit" option goes away. Admins, that must be an option with whomever this company you are now going thru to run this site.....please check into that......and you are right, 99% of us just want to be able to fix typo's that we don't catch when originally posting something........you can't do anything about the 1% who want to "edit" to change their stories or whatever the case may be.

"when we ask AND nag" is what that should say (Prime example)....spell check doesn't always work as we all know.

    Admins of YF -

If you intended the forums "to be like F2F conversations" then you SHOULD allow "take-backs."

Humans regularly converse and adjust and correct their conversations - Politicians do it all the time!

And, about "nobility," isn't this regulated by the thumbs up/thumbs down/karma functions? Isn't it more democratic to let the group decide if something should be yanked rather than your sole discretion?

My good friend made a typo in the title of her paid advertisement that actually was a very simple fix...only spelling. Why wouldn't the admin fix it? I woulda think when you PAY for an ad, the admin would be checking it anyway to see if it acceptable and notice the error.....and CALL her!!! I think that is just a poor business policy. Actually, a hostile business policy.

Frankly, while I have issues about the procedure used to remove or correct posts/threads on this site, I have to disagree with you ruthiesue - The site admins can't be held responsible for checking/reporting mistakes in paid advertising. Say for example, an advertiser submitted an ad with the wrong phone number or address, how would site admins know what's right or wrong? When considering your friend's example, advertisers do all sorts of crazy things, like misspell words, to attract attention. So, how would the site admins know if it was a mistake or a gimmick? It's the responsibility of the advertiser to submit in an ad that's been proofed, not the website owner's responsibility. It's not a "poor business policy," but the standard business policy of every media source, publication, website, etc.

I simply want to know why if you place a classified ad it only stays on the front page for one day, when the other "chatter" is there for weeks?

Agree on spelling, but if you need to change something in your Paid ad, that needs to be ok. They say you can, but then why can't she change the mistake in hers?

ruthiesue, you incorrect as far as the post not being change by the admin. i fixed her typo as soon as i received her email for help. advertisers have full control of what is posted in their business directory advertisement and can change or update anytime.

    strundy,
classifieds, events, forums, new photos, etc. are posted to the front page as they are posted by members. each new post bumps down the last.
