I am seeing and smelling a lot of skunk road kills on Marysville Rd and Hwy 20. Is this a normal occurance for this time of year? Is there an agency that is responsible for removing the road kills? It looks like even the vultures are leaving them alone.

It is a very normal occurrence this time of year. It's called mating season and the males have only one thing on their minds. And, it sure isn't crossing the roads safely.

Hahaha!!! I drive to and from work in the dark each day - and I have seen just as many live ones running around as dead ones on the road....

There was a show on cnl 6. It featured Marysville. they called it the skunk capitle. It showed skunks running the streets in the city and compeating with the cats for food. It was pretty good. Watch for it. Ive seen the program twice.

Every time I see a road kills I feel the arrogance of mankind towards nature and ultimately our stupidity.

Yes sometime is inevitable but if we just would drive slower there would not be a lot of road kills.
We rush and scramble in our life like headless chickens.

Lets slow down, be more awake; we would save lives and gas.

when they run out of the darkness into my path it don't matter if i'm doing 40 or 70 mph they are gonna get hit. trust me it's not like i want to hit them cause then i have to park my vehicle down the hill from my house for a few days. on a side note i once sucked one up in a harvester while in rice that smelt great!! anyway it's like the deer that jump out at you, i would rather kill the critter & trash my vehicle than try to avoid it and take someone head on or run myself off the road trying to swerve. what really scares me is night rides on the bike don't want my bike smelling like skunk. and a guy hit a deer up a few months ago in B-ville he didn't make it. DOA!!! it's a natural instinct to swerve and try to miss a animal but DON"T DO IT!!! that animal is not worth your life

"not to be rude" but whoever goes more than 55 mph on these roads must have the same intelligence of a skunk....

actually skunks are very intelligent and are very trainable as pets if you can find a vet to take out the sent bag. bet that can't be cheap. make a good car theft deterant don't ya think. still i guess they ain't that smart to run out in the roads at night. I think i would rather hit them fast, less chance of them stinking up my vehicle. I don't no sounds like it should work

I know they can be pets, my question is who is going to catch them.

You make a good point skunks are intelligent, even if during mating season they prefer to think with a different head. Joke apart, all animals are intelligent and sensible to various degrees and that is why it is so sad to see them flatten on the road without any sort of dignity. We human in most cases have a higher degree of intelligence and with that comes the responsibility to use it wisely for the benefits of all.
Your chances to avoid running over a skunk (or any other animal) are higher at 40 mph than 70 mph, yes you arrive home 10 minutes later but don't need to park your car down the hill, even if the exercise would be good :)

ps. skunks reincarnate too, in your next life you could end up having one of them as your boss or as your IRS auditor and who would like to be in your place....

@loveisintheair: your comment about skunks reincarnating just explained a lot about someone I work with! Thank goodness it's not my boss!
