No more Frankenfoods poisoning our food chain, our bodies and our children! Stop Monsanto from controlling and altering seeds and heirlooms! Sign the California ballot initiative that, if passed, will require food companies to clearly label genetically engineered foods (GMO's). Put aside your party affiliations - This is one of those times where government intervention is a must! Get on board with the fight against GMO's!

Maybe it would be beneficial for everyone to check out following article. It gives BOTH sides of the issue. http://www.csa.com/discoveryguides/gmfood/overview.php

Maybe it would be beneficial if your resource for debate was less than a decade old!
Are you really that much against putting a label on a package of food telling the consumer what they're putting on their tables, in their bodies and feeding their children?

I didn't say I was against anything. You make assumptions based on the fact I think both sides should be heard before being told what to do. OK?

Apparently you don't agree. Well thats your right. I think both sides should be judged before making a decision on how to go. I guess when someone has their mind made up they are afraid that someone may see things different than you. Let me know how that works for you too , OK?

Don't try to worm out of this one and come off as a neutral party - To present an opposing view on something that is so plainly wrong validates your opposition to this initiative. Do you really believe it's right to genetically alter plant and animal life to the extent that the resulting foods could be the source of a host of human health issues? Don't you believe food companies should be held accountable for the products they produce? Are you willing to take the risk of damaging the food chain and risking life? What harm is it to you if a package of food clearly states what's in it and where the ingredients came from? Are genetically-altered plants and animals what YOUR Mother Nature or "God" intended?

I reread http://www.csa.com/discoveryguides/gmfood/overview.php to see if I missed something. This article seems to give both pros and cons on the subject. Maybe your overzealous beliefs on the subject prevents you from looking at both sides. To be honest I do lean towards the genetically altered items to be listed. I see no harm in that. You seem to miss the point I tried (in vain) to make. Both sides of the argument should be considered, rather than your (my way or the highway) thinking.

BVJ - The resource that you're pointing people to is ten or more years old!
I'm fairly versed in this topic given that I've grown/eaten/studied organic food for 25+ years, have clients in the CPG category and I'm connected with foodies, restaurants and food safety organizations. I am very aware of all sides of the CURRENT issues.
While I would normally take aim at your label (no pun intended) of being overzealous, this is one topic that I will happily wallow in your negative accolades. While I'm pleased that you personally side with requiring CPG companies to label GMO ingredients, there really isn't another "side of the argument" when it comes to the food we put in our bodies, serve to others and feed our children.

Leon panetta (sp?) stated yesterday that we the USA should ask foreign governments before we support Israel or others in invading Iran.

No mention of asking Congress, Who do these people think they are?

Here is a current article (March 3, 2012) that covers both sides of the GMO labeling issue.

    http://www.stltoday.com/business/local/push-to-label-genetically-modified-food-gains-traction/article_397471e6-625a-11e1-a317-001a4bcf6878.html

Whether or not you believe GMO foods are bad for you, the Label GMO Foods Initiative merely gives us the same choice that consumers in 50 other countries already have. On this issue as with many others, the best tool the public has when up against global corporations, who can buy and sell regulatory agencies, politicians, laws, and entire countries at will, is to hit them where it makes a difference, in their pocketbooks. Their greatest fear, as it has been for all vested interests down the centuries, is vox populi – the voice of the people.

The last thing the “great and powerful Oz” wants us to see is the “man behind the curtain”. In this case, the list of ingredients on the box or the tags on the fruits and vegetables we buy.

Food labels already list: Calories, Total Fat, Cholesterol, Sodium, Potassium, Total Carbohydrates, Protein, Vitamins, and all ingredients in descending order by total percentage of the entire product. Not such a great leap to label which of these ingredients are GMO or not.

Whether it’s high fructose corn syrup, MSG, artificial sweeteners, aluminum compounds in deodorants or lead products in hair dyes, I want to know what’s in there so I can make an informed choice.

Mostely Jistenes, I want to know what Country produced or manufactured the product I am purchasing and feeding my family. I have stopped purchasing seafood products because most are "farm raised" in China. And, we have NO control there.

    I agree, loraine.
I do not buy any seafood from China because of possible toxic metal poisoning. I do see labeling of fruits and vegetables by country (at Grocery Outlet, for instannce) and also some packaged items.

TallTrees, he just wants to argue with you. Lets post an anti racism thread and he will come back with a link to some "Neo-Nazi" website and claim he simply feels as if both sides should be heard before we jump to any conclusions. Its funny how he "reread" his own link but doesn't ever mention whether he read your at all and completely ignores it when you point out the age of his article. I guess that is what you can expect from a guy who thinks we should be governed by a 2,000+ year old book. Personally, I don't think God wants us tampering with his creations.
