Can someone explain to me where the monies comes from that supports persons enrolled in Medicaid or MediCal?

I have done many internet searches to find the answer with no real answer. Anyone have a link that will give me an answer?

    Hi,

I used to work with these twoprograms ages ago so let's see if I can still salvage some of me knowledge from the dusty file cabinets of my mind (Believe me, thereis alot of dust. LOL)

Medicade/Medical and MediCare are not comingled, they come from two different coffers.  Medical and Medicaid are the same program except California has a Wavier with the Feds to do somethings different with the program, one of which is a higher payment amount.  These come from us paying into it via Social Security in our pay checks.

Medicare is a different coffer and just quite how it works is unclear to me(memory fail), can't remember other than some employers pay into it and some don't.  Not all pay checks have Medi Care deductions on them.

The Social Security Website http://www.ssa.gov/ is usally pretty good about having information which is up to date and probbably can give you a much better picture than I did.

Thanks Wolf. The last line here: "These come from us paying into it via Social Security in our pay checks." That tells me that these two programs are somehow related to either Medicare or Social Security. Hmmmmm.....

There is a difference though.  Some counties have the option of not participating or limit participation in Medi Care whereas they don't have that option with Medi Cal. It's like SSI and SSDI.  SSI is from the entitlement program coffers (a crude discription) whereas SSDI is tied directly into our Social Security.
